On July 1st, 2026 at 7PM ET, The Carterhaugh School presented a special lecture on the folklore of cats - and a recording of that lecture will be available from now until August 1st! The lecture is pay what you wish (min $5) and all proceeds will be donated to Brittany's dear cat Jasper, who was just dramatically diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure. You can read more about the event (and Jasper!) below -->

We'll also send a reminder email to everyone before it comes down on August 1st.
Our talk FOLKLORIC FELINES is now available on demand! This is genuinely one of our favorite talks of all time: cats as tricksters, cats as literal princesses, cats as unholy terrors. Truly, we cover the full feline folkloric spectrum.
We're making the lecture available as a way to raise funds to help cover outstanding medical expenses for Brittany’s little orange, furry sweet potato, Jasper.
Over the years, we’ve amassed a truly ridiculous amount of cat-related folklore, from superstitions to fairy tales, and so if you, like us, are a cat freak, you do not want to miss this. Also, for the first time ever in this talk, we included some personal family cat-lore as well as photographs both embarrassing and majestic of our own terrible animals. (Sara even sings her maternal grandfather’s patented pet song, which has entered the annals of her family lore!)
When: The original live event happened on Wednesday, July 1st, but a recording is available on demand now! This special replay will only be available for 1 month though, until August 1st.
Where: The recording is hosted on Google Drive. You’ll receive the link via email within a few minutes of signing up.
Why: Miraculously, Jasper is currently happy, stable, and even improving, and we’re hoping to keep him that way! However, the last few weeks have involved a midnight emergency visit ($), a prolonged stay for him in an oxygen tank ($$), the first of many trips to a kitty cardiologist ($$$) and several new medications ($$$$). The future holds more vet visits, many tests and panels, and other things that Brittany and Jasper are frankly not excited to be part of ($$$$$🤮).
But this little guy is clearly a fighter. This was an undiagnosed condition he's been struggling with on his own for a long time, and we want to help him have more days of long lounges in the sunshine, treats that make him snuffle to himself with delight, and silly tongue bleps of happiness.
All proceeds from this talk will go directly to Jasper’s care. We’re asking for a $5 door charge (and we’re gratefully accepting any additional Jasper donations you’d like to make - seriously, every dollar helps enormously. You can enter whatever amount you’d like, $5 and up.
We’d also be very grateful if you’d spread the word to any other folklore/ cat lovers out there!

WHO'S BEHIND THIS?
We’re award-winning folklorists, teachers, and writers with a combined 24 years of teaching experience and over 150 publications. Together, we founded The Carterhaugh School of Folklore and the Fantastic, where we teach creative souls how to re-enchant their lives through folklore and fairy tales.
We’re also devoted cat minions (clearly!), obsessed with chai, and 100% B.F.F.s of more than 15 years. We love red lipstick, decadent Gothic novels, and totally crush “Total Eclipse of the Heart” at karaoke.
