The Carterhaugh School of Folklore & the Fantastic Presents...
The FREE Folklore Summer Reading Challenge!
How Does It Work?
For starters, this challenge is totally flexible and easy to adapt to your own reading preferences. (As long as you like fairy tales and folklore! If you don’t, well, you’ll probably be happier with a challenge that wasn’t put together by two folklorists.)
No mandatory authors. No specific titles that you must read.
Instead, we have 15 reading categories designed to enchant and enrich, folklore-style! Plus, a ton of suggestions if you don’t know where to start!
Can you complete the challenge by the end of August?
We're betting you can!
When you sign up, you'll also get some goodies to help you knock this challenge out of the park!
Our workbook includes a challenge tracker, a detailed list of all the challenge categories with recommendations, a checklist, a "books to check out" section, space for notes, and more!
Our beautiful bookmark comes with the challenge categories printed on it so that you can use it for tracking (and hey, if you print it out and add your own flare, we'd love to see it!)
Our Facebook community is FULL of voracious readers just dying to hear from you about what you've been reading lately! (And, if you want them to, they'll hold you accountable too!)
Hey Wait, Who's Behind This?
We are - hi! We’re Dr. Sara Cleto and Dr. Brittany Warman. We’re award-winning folklorists, teachers, and writers with a combined 22 years of teaching experience and over 150 publications. Together, we founded The Carterhaugh School of Folklore and the Fantastic, where we teach creative souls how to re-enchant their lives through folklore and fairy tales.
Our work has appeared in such places as Uncanny Magazine, Enchanted Living, Strange Horizons, Corvid Queen, Mythic Delirium, Goblin Fruit, Liminality, The Fairy-Tale Magazine, Through the Gate, and many, many more! We're currently working on our first book, Fairylore.
We’re also devoted cat minions, obsessed with chai, and 100% B.F.F.s of more than a decade. We love red lipstick, decadent Gothic novels, and totally crush “Total Eclipse of the Heart” at karaoke.
